Have you ever smelt seaweed like a rose?
That magical threshold where the ocean meets the shore. That unlimited horizon where dreams are created. And then there is seaweed - it is all where my heart thrives..
Ahhhh! to sail beyond the shoreline…
The ocean! My most favourite FAVOURITE natural landscape. Oh yes, I love the bush. I love trees. I love flowers. I love rocks and cliffs. .. yet the ocean.. the ocean calls me like no other landscape does.
I once lived away from the ocean.
Many folk do. However when I saw it again from the top of a cliff edge..those rumbling waves, that vast horizon, the relationship that the cliffs and the ocean have with each other, that particular blue, the forever view ahead, I literally hyperventilated. It was as though some deep treasure, a part of my soul came back home. I promised myself then and there that to live away from the ocean was really REALLY detrimental to my health - my mental, emotional and spiritual health.
Does the ocean call you, my friend? Or it is rock faces and mountains? Or maybe it is the ancient trees or the snow capped alps? What natural landscape calls and beckons you, and says to you "come follow me? Come be close to me? Come be near enough to me that you can smell me, taste me, fill your every living cells with me?"
Do you want to know why I love the ocean?
Firstly there is that magical threshold where the ocean meets the shore. Where your feet go from being on soft sand to being on harder wet sand, to then, THEN being caressed by the cool (or at times freezing!) waves. That point where land meets water.. where two elements meet and merge and surrender to each others movements.
There is also the knowing that beyond the shore line is a wondrous sense of UNLIMITEDNESS. That vast horizon that goes on and on and ON.
There is the wonder that when I go out IN the ocean my feet are so far above the ocean floor that the vastness of out-there-in-front--me is also out-there-below-me. And then, if that isn't enough, when I look up there is more vastness, more unlimitedness, more wonder and magic in the sky above me.
How much unlimited horizons can there be in one space?
It is phenomenal.
Unlimited horizons.
Unlimited mind space.
Unlimited dreams and visions and hopes and beliefs.
Unlimited because it takes me out of any boxes that society, culture, religion, family, MYSELF has placed me in, and in that unlimitedness,
I am FREE.
Then there are the waves.
Waves are passion beyond measure.
Waves can take you on a gentle, peaceful, smooth, tranquil journey.. waves coming in. Waves going out. Waves coming in. Waves going out. Like your breath. Breathing in.... Breathing out.... Gentle... Rolling... Gentle... Soothing.
Other times though, they crash upon the shore and erupt from the depths in such incredible passion and life-force that I am in awe of their power and majesty. Raging. Fierce. Powerful. Unpredictable.
Another reason why I love the ocean is how the sun and moon rise over the horizon, and how their sun/moon beams flicker on the top of the ocean as an invitation to again, come-follow-me. Come walk upon my beams, come rise up beyond the mundane and take your journey beyond. Beyond. Beyond.
Oh, and finally, I love seaweed!
The smell, the feel, the texture. I hold it and smell it like one smells a rose...I know, that may seem a bit crazy to some of you, yet for me there is something both old and new about seaweed, something wonderful and magical, deep, alive and free. It makes my heart soar and feel alive.
To live near the ocean!
To step beyond that magical threshold where ocean and shore meet.
Did you know, that threshold, it holds magic. It holds power and invites me to go way beyond,
leaving the soft shore line that I know so well, to trust that beyond there, SOMEWHERE BEYOND THERE, is a place where my heart is being called to go, to be, to travel, to explore.....
My friend, while being actually on a physical boat in the middle of no-where is a wonderful invitation, the invitation and calling that the ocean gifts me is more than that. It is a metaphor of my life, my spirits journey, my way of being in the world.
I am constantly journeying in my spirit boat to Isles of great Wonder, Isles of priceless Treasure, Isles where extra-ordinary characters live and where Guardians walk me through such sacred places that I would otherwise be lost in finding. Isles where dragons hide and fires burn, Isles where healing envelops me and wisdom pours over me. Isles of such magic that when I do arrive I wonder at times why it took me so long to come.
The Isles I travel to are beyond this time and place. They invite me, call me, beckon me, urge me to come; they appear in my dreams and visions in maps and directions, and then they await till I arrive. They come forth in sacred circles I facilitate and in journeys I guide folk through. These Isles are part of my souls landscape,
and part of yours too!
Until we meet my friend,
where the ocean meets the shore,
and where seaweed is smelt like a rose!
Blessed Be
